Rocket Propulsion

Rocket Propulsion

The rocket propulsion theory is based on newton's third law i.e every action has equal and opposite reaction. Rocket is filled with propellant, combustion takes place inside rocket and comes out at very high pressure from the bottom of the rocket which pushes the air downwards and according to newton's law the thrust is created which pushes the rocket upward.

Demonstration

To demonstrate rocket propulsion we create a balloon rocket.
Materials required
  • Balloon
  • straw
  • thread
  • tape

Steps of the experiment

  • We tie the straw on a thread connected tightly from both ends.
  • Stick the balloon with the straw with tape.
  • Fill the balloon and hold the air inside and pull the straw in one end of the thread and release the air as shown below.
